Allison lives downstairs. We met working for a Puppetry company in Toronto. Before I even met her, I knew we were destined to be friends because people were calling us by each others names by accident (I was working another day job at the beginning, and we didn't cross paths). We really don't look that much alike, although we still get confused all the time. Maybe it's the A-names? We are also both CRAZY organized. To the point where people went out of their way to explain to me that "She colour-codes like YOU do". (My colour coding is legendary... I am in fact a laughing stock at the office because of it.)
As soon as I was in the puppet shop full time, Allison and I bonded like two girls who start kindergarten on the same day and discover a mutual love of teal crayons. Lunches together, seeing her rolling her eyes at me while on the phone with a tough supplier... she didn't even flinch at my singing all day long.
I moved out of my old apartment and into a new one with an empty apartment downstairs. Allison and I had known each other only about 5 months at this point, but I immediately called her and suggested she and Robin take it if living below me wasn't a terrifying prospect to Robin. They agreed to take it and I almost died of excitement.
Hula-hooping, banjo-strumming, gluten-free cake pop making, tea sipping American transplants don't come along every day. Aren't those hobbies just SO cool?
I can't describe what living above both Allison and Robin has meant to me. I was worried that living on my own for the first time, I would feel lonely or disconnected from people. This has been the perfect solution to that. Allison is always there to have tea, make me emergency bad day goodies, dispense hugs, give clothing advice, & help eat my baking leftovers. Robin has been equally amazing with his quick and logical advice, camera and printing and bicycle help, iTunes music selections and sense of humour.
So anyways, they make me happy every week, but this week I am celebrating it on the blog! Best downstairs neighbours ever! You can also show them some love by visiting their blogs (Allison's/Robin's) or following them on twitter (Allison's/Robin's).
