How Things Are Going #7
There is so much happy news this week! The weather is brightening up and I have a handful of painting commissions to work on, Molly and Finn are frolicking around the yard and there is just so much going on it seems!
First, I have a new niece! Her name is Lorelei Elizabeth and I haven't met her yet but I am just so excited that she exists. I was so excited when my sister in law, Ayla, went into labour... I could barely sit still and kept randomly tearing up all night. I also felt a ton of worry and stress and empathy for her and my brother-in-law. My best friend says that she thinks once we have been through labour and those early days of parenting, we can't un-know what we know... that it is beautiful and great but also so so hard and stressful. It was such a physical, mental, emotional and hormonal upheaval that I lost most of the tastebuds on my tongue, which can apparently happen under extreme stress. Of course, I barely had time to think about it, other than noticing that it had happened, because I was dealing with so much other stuff! Anyways... my memories of that time are still crystal clear and for that, I am just sending them all my love and imaginary light beams of good energy and sleepy thoughts for the baby. Ha!
Also, my sister and her fiance finished their Masters this week! I feel like they have been doing an epic long hard slog through schooling for two years and it will be nice to hang out again! I am also so proud of her for being so amazingly smart and dedicated.
In news in our house, Molly is going to be starting one day of daycare a week next week! It's like people could smell my newfound free time on the wind, or something, because I already have three painting commissions and some other possible ones in the works, as well as some other non-painting projects and sewing lessons. So with that, I have re-opened my etsy shop and will be listing painting commission openings there. I will also possibly be free for private sewing lessons during the day on Wednesdays, now! So let me know if you are interested in any of those things!
I am so excited for this one day "off". We found a lovely home daycare near our house and I know Molly will really benefit from having play time with other kids. And I will really benefit from painting/working, spending quality time with Finn, fitting in things like doctor appts, getting out of the house more, and eating at least one lunch a week without having to share half of it with a tiny monkey who gives it all away to the dog.
I am also really excited for two new classes I am developing for Needlework! One is a series of classes called "Proper Fit" where I will be teaching how to address fit issues with sewing. The first class covers Full Bust Adjustments, how to alter the pattern, and how to sew, fit and mark a muslin. The second class is a mending class! I always love teaching at Needlework, but these classes feel near and dear to my heart, and give me a chance to really help people with some areas I feel particularly interested in.
The sun is shining, I hear some waking-up sorts of sounds from Molly's room, so I am gonna go and round up the troops for a walk! I hope you all get outside today... I sat out there knitting with Finn this morning and the fresh air and sunlight did me good.
