I finished my radish dress! This is from the same Martha Negley collection I blogged about yesterday. I wore heels in the backyard and was sinking deep into the ground every step. If you are coming to the wedding do not wear heels! It was a disaster! I could not stop laughing, running back and forth to the camera on my tiptoes like a lunatic. And then Finn escaped the backyard and I was running all over, shouting for him, on my tiptoes the entire time.
I love this fabric so much. I bought three yards from Needlework with no plan and then stressed and dreamed about what to make with it for weeks before deciding on another Hawthorn Dress, this time with no sleeves (my first Hawthorn dress here). Because the fabric is directional (has a specific up and down), it was a nightmare squeezing it from three yards. I added pockets of another fabric because I just could not possibly fit any more pieces out of this cotton.
The buttons are another thing I agonized over at Nova Sewing. I was so pleased with them (they exactly match the radishes!) but Jay was like "Oh, they kind of disappear because they look like the radishes".... and he totally has a point. But I still love them, even if most people won't notice them at all.
In terms of alterations, I lengthened the skirt by two inches, and cut a 14 on the top, grading out to a 16 skirt. I also shortened the bodice by an inch, to put it closer to my natural waist. I opted out of the long sleeves because I feel like they are a funny length on me (and I couldn't have fit them on my fabric anyways).
I am not wearing it today, because I am saving it for a wedding we have on Friday... but I couldn't wait to blog it!
