As I Draw: Forward (Illustration Friday) (AND OFFICE ROBOT!!!)

This week's Illustration Friday post features Office Robot! I was reminded of him because I was going through all my old posts and I remembered how much I loved his little adventures! Those of you who don't recognize him should read some of the fanciful early Living In A Green Room posts featuring him. The word is "Forward", and that's where Office Robot is going! (Can't you see his pointing finger?)

As I Draw: Prepare (Illustration Friday)

Illustration Friday is a website which suggests a weekly topic/word for Illustrators to all try their hands at and then everyone uploads a link to one place and can view each others interpretations. This week Kelly and I decided to give it a whirl so I bundled up and headed to her house to draw up a storm while munching on tortilla chips and talking about our favourite types of erasers. She and I are secret twins since we both love puppets and illustration. AND my middle name is Kelly. Unfortunately, she has a real twin...

Cowboy Boots & Clean Feet

We were walking through a fair when I spotted a booth selling used cowboy boots. I've (desperately) wanted some for some time, now, so I dragged Jay in even though there was no salesperson around and used boots at fairs are sketchy. It looked like there were some women's styles that were maybe size eleven, so I was taking my time poking through them when the salesman showed up.

This Writer Is 28 Years Old / 16 Years On A Bus

Today is my birthday! When I was a kid, I had a lot of expectations about what I would be like at 28 (married, house, two kids, job as a shop owner). I think childhood me would be pretty confused at how adult me has turned out. But that's okay. What did I know as a kid, anyways? I definitely didn't expect that mostly I would be exactly the same!

Happy Bunny & Matt: Puppet Edition

Yesterday Happy Bunny got married! Aaaaaaand: finally I can reveal the gift that Jay and I made for them! I figured out what I wanted to make right after they got engaged: puppets of themselves. Back then I hadn't made puppets professionally.

I also had two years ahead of me to figure it out.

So of course I wait until 4 months beforehand to get started.

The Bind

Two mornings ago I was in a bind. And by bind I mean both as a difficult situation and as tight or restricted clothing. How did I get there? I will explain. I wore my hippy skirt on my bicycle.

If you've ever done this, that will explain everything to you. If not, keep reading.

I was going to work and I decided to wear my new flowing hippy skirt and my new "hipster" glasses. I made it to Queen West when my bike started to slow down for no really good reason. (Or so I thought).

"Boo-Yah" Maxi Dress DIY For Tall Girls

Maxi dresses! You don't have to shave. You look hot. You keep cool. You can wear the comfiest shoes and nobody knows. You can finally wear your jean jacket with something. Maxi dresses, Sock Buns, and my new glasses are my latest obsessions. *screeching vinyl sound*

Should come with warning message: Only attempt this if you are short.

One Year Living In A Green Room Anniversary!

Guess what today is? Okay, I know... I gave it away in the title. I am always doing that. THIS IS THE ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF LIVING IN A GREEN ROOM!!! I can't believe it's been a year. I swear I was sure that I only had enough material for 7 blog posts.

Like all years of my life, this one has had it's tumultuous moments. I started blogging the day after I lost my dream job to budget problems. I remember Allison telling me that I should blog because she would always read it.

You Know What Makes Me Happy? The Beach.

This is not a normal post. This is a post FROM THE BEACH. I am on my first real vacation in a few years, with Jay, at the cottage. Mostly I've been eating delicious food and laughing at the cats and re-reading Harry Potter. Being up here has reminded me of being a little kid and walking down the beach and being swung through the air between my parents. Yes, I used to be super blonde and wear green and pink together.

Spider Bike

Every morning I come down and find a huge spider web draped across my bike. Normally, in the rest of my life, I would just quietly walk away and take the TTC, but NO. THIS IS MY BIKE AND I WILL DEFEND IT. I cautiously approach and, with a stick from the lawn, furiously attack the air around my bike like a fencing champion. I can tell this is the Charlotte of Bike Spiders since this spider is so prolific in her web-making skills. She has usually gone from floor to ceiling, around both bicycles, and through and under many of the spokes.
