$15 Fall Challenge (Reveal!)

As you saw on Monday, it's time for the reveal of the $15 Fall Challenge! To recap, we were supposed to take $15 and make a fall themed vignette. So, um, the table above is mine! Except I obviously illustrated it and broke all the rules. But here's the thing... there's a craft! You see that little rock with the face? In our family we have little rocks with faces on them for everyone that is in our family or has ever eaten a big meal with us or who we just like.

Moving To Hamilton: Part 1

I am moving to Hamilton in 3 weeks to make a home with Jay. Happy Bunny is moving to California for the summer to be with Mr. Happy Bunny. My name twin and past roommate Amanda is moving to Philadelphia. It feels like everyone is moving right now. I am beyond excited to move. Make a home with Jay? Have the two cutest kitties ever and maybe add a dog? Have spending money? Join the loveliest and most supportive arts community I have ever heard of? Space for a studio?

You Know Who Makes Me Happy? My Mom.

It's Mother's Day! I just wanted to write a short post to tell you all about how amazing my mom is. The illustrated picture is of my mom with Brenna and I at roughly the ages of 9 and 6. I feel like some of my most poignant memories of my mom were at this age. I still remember watching her get ready to go out to dinner with my dad and curling her hair, putting on lipstick and perfume and fancy shoes and being in awe of how beautiful she was (and still is).

Hospitals and Patience

Everyone looks so little in a hospital bed. Some feelings are too big for blogging.

I've been avoiding talking to people in case they ask if I am okay. I can't be responsible for what happens when people do that.

It's nice to have a reminder of what is important.

Everything turned out okay.

You Know What Makes Me Happy? Beavers.

I have a soft spot for beavers. I like seeing them on our Canadian nickels. I love that they are this kind of hilarious national animal. I love beaver jokes. I like how their feet look like alien hands. Seriously.... google it. If I ran into one on the street, I would run away, and I like that about them, too. These are not pushovers.... these are some secretly feisty Canadians that cut knock trees down with their teeth.

Guest Post: Kes - A Primer by Kelly Kirkham

Kelly Kirkham is a fabulous illustrator and a dear friend. She did a guest post on Living In A Green Room a while ago, and I waited before begging her for a second one since she was busy making a baby! So here is her primer on her new son, Kes. Kes- A Primer

My partner Bryn and I have a little boy names Kes, who is 7 months old. His Full name is Kestrel Calder, named after our favourite bird and favourite artist.

Welcoming the New Year Blanket Fort Style

Every year I write down things that I learned through the year. This will be the first year that I will be doing this on the blog, so I am going to cap it at ten items. I of course learned so many more things this year than I can possibly list here, but it's a taste of the bigger things that happen behind the frivolity that I normally share here.

This Writer Is 28 Years Old / 16 Years On A Bus

Today is my birthday! When I was a kid, I had a lot of expectations about what I would be like at 28 (married, house, two kids, job as a shop owner). I think childhood me would be pretty confused at how adult me has turned out. But that's okay. What did I know as a kid, anyways? I definitely didn't expect that mostly I would be exactly the same!

Oatmeal: The Homemade Napalm

Welcome to the worst oatmeal experience of my life. 2 Days ago. And no, nobody could make this shit up. It starts with me making oatmeal. In a skirt.

I did all the right things. I emptied the little packets into the bowl. I boiled the water. I added the water to the bowl. I stirred. I grabbed my spoon & oatmeal and walked out of the kitchen.

MISTAKE!
